O Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) é uma condição do neurodesenvolvimento marcada por dificuldades de comunicação, interação social e padrões repetitivos de comportamento. Sua prevalência crescente impõe desafios à Odontologia, como hipersensibilidade sensorial, resistência a mudanças e risco aumentado de agravos bucais. No entanto, a formação acadêmica ainda apresenta lacunas no preparo para esse atendimento. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o conhecimento e as percepções de estudantes de Odontologia sobre o manejo de pacientes com TEA. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, cuja coleta de dados foi feita através de questionários estruturados aplicados a discentes da Universidade Franciscana (UFN) entre o 5º e o 10º semestre. Foi realizada análise estatística pelo teste Qui-quadrado (p<0,05).
Foram incluídos 108 alunos. Os resultados mostraram baixa experiência prática (12,9%) e autopercepção média de preparo de 4,8/10. As principais barreiras foram a falta de vivência prática (77%) e de conteúdo teórico (62%). Apesar da insegurança (58%) e ansiedade (64%), sentimentos de empatia (49%) e satisfação profissional (43%) também se destacaram. A maioria (72%) reconheceu a necessidade de preparo básico de todo cirurgião-dentista para o atendimento de pacientes com . Conclui-se que há fragilidades significativas na formação odontológica para o manejo de indivíduos com TEA, reforçando a importância de reformas curriculares e da utilização de materiais educativos complementares, como a cartilha desenvolvida, para promover uma prática mais inclusiva e humanizada.
