Preventive Action Against Tuberculosis Goes Beyond Medical Skills: An Experience Report From A Basic Health Unit In Teresina-Pi

Abstract

Medical students reported their experiences in health education practices on tuberculosis, considering behavioral and pedagogical perspectives, during preventive action at the Mariano Mendes Basic Health Unit in Teresina-PI. The methodology involved comparing narratives, SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities), dialogic educational practices and anonymized interviews. UBS users showed engagement with the issue and revealed the normalization of the state in the face of the epidemic, in line with Achille Mbembe's concept of necropolitics. Student narratives highlighted concerns about the epidemiology of tuberculosis, academic training, the need to improve communication skills and the effectiveness of the strategies adopted. The interviews reinforced the importance of integrating historical and cultural knowledge, inspired by Freirian pedagogy, with formal knowledge from medical literature. It was concluded that the experience promoted the development of communicative and educational skills in health, contributing to the students' professional training and the promotion of community health. These actions reinforce the role of health education as a strategy for prevention and professional qualification, demonstrating its impact on tackling tuberculosis and preparing future doctors for the job market and ethical and humanized practices.
